Rand has over 25 years of professional business experience in a broad array of early-to mid-stage development technology, service and manufacturing businesses. His experiences included several CEO and consultant roles involving general management, finance, technology licensing, marketing and sales, business development and R&D management. He has also co-founded and served on the boards of several economic development not-for-profit organizations focused on technology transfer and the formation of new technology-based businesses.

Terry Gronwall
Chief Operating Officer
Terry's management background encompasses a broad range of responsibilities, including project and product line management, research and development, operations, marketing, purchasing, customer service and personnel management. His keen ability to identify and respond to market needs yielded dramatic increases in profitability and market share for his company. He led numerous initiatives in product development and service delivery and was accorded formal recognition for outstanding project management and superior customer service. He devised and implemented strategies for cost reduction and process improvement, and as General Manager he built a division which generated $250 million in revenue.

Christopher Striemer, Ph.D.
VP – Engineering
Chris received his Ph.D in Electrical and Computer Engineering from the University of Rochester in 2004 with a thesis that focused on practical application of silicon nanostructures in biotechnology and energy. For the last 5 years he has worked for several university spinout companies that bridge the gap between the precisely structured solid-state microelectronic world and biological environments. He has worked on the development of the Arrayed Imaging Reflectometry detection platform since 2005, building from comparatively primitive early studies to the high-performance imaging arrays that are currently in development. Chris has (co)authored 4 patents, has 10 peer-reviewed publications, and has been invited to present his work on optical biosensing and nanostructured materials at conferences in the US and Europe.

Benjamin L. Miller, Ph.D.
SAB Chair
Ben is Associate Professor of Dermatology, Biochemistry and Biophysics, and Biomedical Engineering at the University of Rochester. He is the (co)author of over twelve patents and 75 publications in biosensing, combinatorial chemistry, and organic synthesis. He has presented over 90 invited lectures world-wide. In addition to his efforts with Adarza BioSystems, Inc, Ben is an active consultant for Lighthouse Biosciences, Inc, a Rochester-area startup company focused on protein detection. He received his Bachelor of Science in Chemistry, Bachelor of Arts in German, and Bachelor of Arts in Mathematics from Miami University in Oxford, Ohio and his Ph. D. in Chemistry from Stanford University. Prior to his academic appointment, Ben was a National Institutes of Health Postdoctoral Fellow in the Department of Chemistry at Harvard University.
